FROM THE PRESIDENT
Changes to the trail pass as of 2016.
The changes are as such for 2016 and are not to change for a 5 year period.
A groomed pass will be $96 plus tax
A non-groomed pass will be $46 plus tax.
Registration fee will increase by $6
These numbers were not picked out of thin air. It was decided last year at the Federation Annual General Meeting (AGM) that a committee be formed to gather facts and with that information come up with a reasonable and sustainable solution to trail developement and maintenance for a better decision at the 2015 AGM.
All the Federation clubs were given a questionnaire last year and with that information the committee was able to get together with real numbers and ideas. With these facts the committee came up with three different permit options.
Within those three options were 2 price increase options.
Increase yes: there was no options with the facts presented to the committee that was going to decrease the fee. It just was neither feasible nor sustainable. These 2 options were #1 to increase it the full amount in the first year ripping the band aid off so to speak. The second was to carry the increase up to over the 5 years. The first of these was passed. Another item was for trail development and from the questionaire the clubs wanted to develope on average 4000km of trail over the next 5 years in the province. So it was put into the equation as well. However there was another option offered there too and this was to fund 75% of this or 3000km over 5 years. The 75% is what went through in the vote as well.
First thing that had to be voted on this year at the Federation AGM was keep the status quo or vote on the options presented. It was unamimous that the options be voted on. The final vote was a landslide to say the least for the option that was mentioned at the beginning.
This was all done very professionally in my opinion and democratically. There are going to be folks out there that don’t like it as it is an increase but it was not done lightly.
